Hill start assist holds the brakes for a couple of seconds after taking your foot off the brake pedal ,or until you touch the throttle, whichever comes first, on a steep incline, then eases off the brakes gradually. If you are not aware of the system you can be too quick to let go of the clutch and may stall the engine. I have done it myself. (I have a manual transmission).

It seems like GM has changed the dafault manual gearbox fluid being used in all of their vehicles from BOT 0402 to BOT 303 (around year 2012). The new fluid has a viscosity rating that is half the thickness of the old. (BOT 0402 Viscosity @ 40°C : 75.6 / BOT 303 Viscosity @ 40°C : 31) I suppose this has to do with fuel efficency.
